This incredible landscape design is a wonderful addition that expresses the historic charm and elegance of traditional New England landscape architecture. This estate, located in central New Hampshire, is comprised of an extensive parcel with articulated gardens, naturalistic elements, and outdoor living amenities. The began with a landscape assessment that uncovered existing conditions of the estate, which presented a variety of issues including hilly/inaccessible terrain and adherence to more formal design elements. Our team met this challenge head on by working to create a plan that appropriately acknowledges the site's natural topography, enhances the site, and provides various useful functions. We utilized locally sourced granite stone to build substantial hardscape retaining walls and walking paths that mimic the architecture of the local region. These materials add character and durability to the estate while uniting the surrounding landscape. The newly composed hardscaping was accompanied by a diverse selection of native plantings including colorful perennials, aromatic herbs, and ornamental trees for year-round interest. A central feature of the design is a beautiful formal garden that begs for a casual stroll or sit to take in the view, framed by classic wrought iron fencing, and adorned with seasonal variety. A peaceful water feature was designed to appear and act as an informal pond in relation to the surrounding property, and includes an ecological aspect that contributes to local flora and fauna. As the unfolded, it was important to balance the implementation of modern outdoor living amenities within an old estate, and our creative team designed a beautifully appointed terrace area with plenty of space for seating and amenities, as well as a custom-designed fire pit for family gatherings and entertaining. Landscape lighting enabled landscape areas and outdoor living functions to function and be enjoyed after dark. The design and construction of this landscape culminated in a breathtaking estate that exceeded the client's vision.
