Built amidst the bustle of midtown Manhattan, the 'Lycee Francais' which involved landscaping architectural firm Christian Duvernois Landscape/Studio embodies inside-outside living. This initiative re-imagined outdoor spaces at the school, combining beauty with ecological practice. This has an incredible showcase of native plantings that grow very well here in the varying climate we have in New York. Bright perennial gardens bloom throughout the seasons, and dotting the landscape are careful groups of shade trees acting like a modeled canopy so kids and staff can find areas of shade throughout the day. Carefully manicured bluestone footpaths inspire people to take a walk, with natural foot traffic being guided elegantly and subtly, mimicking the architectural style of the school. The constrained site and existing infrastructure presented one of the more prominent challenges to this . Christian Duvernois and his team ingeniously worked within these limits, introducing vertical gardens and vertical green wall systems to achieve maximum greening without compromising the functionality of the spaces. These installations add not only aesthetic value, but they also purify the air and give natural insulation as well. The end product is a cohesive outdoor learning and play supportive environment, including an interactive outdoor classroom space with earth-sourced seating. Impressed with the attention to detail and the presence of nature embedded into the learning experience, the thrilled customer praised the series. Christian Duvernois Landscape/Studio asked us to shoot images of their recently completed "Lycee Francais" a polished example of their thoughtful artisanal approach to design that strives to celebrate the beauty of nature whilst melding it into a lively and urbane community. Valid for the greater area of Inwood, Brooklyn, Long Island and The Hamptons, and in this lands another area of expertise for the company as a great maker that it is in landscaping spaces that inspire and engage.
