Hudson Vista

Hudson Vista Landscape/Studio is excited to have been the design team behind the new transformation of this new private outdoor space in one of New York's metropolitan neighborhoods, the 'Hudson Vista' designed by Christian Duvernois. An example of modern innovation and craftsmanship, servicing clients throughout Inwood, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Long Island, The Hamptons, and Bridgehampton. At Hudson Vista, we transformed a large backyard into a beautiful oasis which seamlessly brought together the best in nature and modern design. It all started with a site analysis so we could respond to the challenges of the urban condition with tight site constraints and different orientations with sunlight. In creating a year-round sustainable that contributes to the local ecosystem, we used a diverse palette of native plants. This included features such as a custom built cedar deck that flows with the architecture of the house to provide an outdoor space for relaxation and entertaining. Surrounding the deck are smooth stone paths cut from local bluestone that lead visitors through botanical displays of ornamental grass, blooming perennials, and evergreen shrubs. This careful placement provides visual stimulation while also providing color and texture 12 months a year. Getting up to the house was a challenge with an undone slope, but we also wanted to maintain the contour of the land so we created tiered garden beds to resolve the slope to one side and only use gravel as a functional and aesthetic make-up of the joins of concrete and gravel path. It is also a design that creates a design feature, one that a viewer must scan the expanse within the landscape to identify, maximizing the use of real estate for planting. We added a restful water feature with a natural stone fountain for its sight AND sound value, as these sounds help set the mood. The end product of the Hudson Vista represents a balance of beauty and functionality, providing our client with a peaceful oasis in the city. Our clients love and are amazed by the meticulous nature of the material selections, from the sustainable plants we choose to the hand crafted features that their friends and visitors do as well.
