Wrap-Around Terrace Wrap-Around TerraceCharney Architects, Salon of ArtConceptual ArtistsChristian Duvernois Landscape/StudioSituation: To create a new outdoor living space for a client, an unexciting, geometrically-shaped space needed to be defined and created, one in which all out door activities could occur. Surrounded by all that greenery you expect from the Hamptons, this private terrace was all drawing the luxury out into nature to create a place to relax and entertain. The has a large wrap-around shape that wraps around the house to maximize the views of the lodge and the landscape. We made use of high-quality materials like bluestone pavers sourced from a local supplier that will last ages and offers a sophisticated look. Then we used wooden railings build-custom from cedar sustainably sourced, bringing safety with aesthetic. Another thing that we were up against was the ground was very hilly. Our team was able to engineer the ground to grade while keeping the topography natural to avoid drainage issues and erosion. We added a smart irrigation system that takes the particular microclimate of the site into account to keep the abundant plantings happy with minimal maintenance. Made for visual interest while providing habitat for local wildlife, the terrace includes a variety of native plantings such as ornamental grasses and flowering perennials. This intentional plant palette adds seasonal splashes of color without requiring excess water. The result is a beautiful outdoor retreat that beautifully flows with the natural landscape. Than the 'Wrap-Around Terrace' that our client has enjoyed for entertaining friends or just relaxing with a good book at night under the starlight!
