Summary: Front Yards without Lawn by Rock Paper Clippers Rock Paper Clippers is excited to have developed the called 'Front Yards without Lawn', a landscaping which changed the approach to front yards in Belmont, Emerald Lake Hills, Highlands-Baywood Park, Menlo Park, Redwood City, San Carlos, San Mateo, and West Menlo Park. While a lawn is perhaps the most traditional thing for landscaping, it is neither environmentally friendly nor sustainable over time, leading our team to create low-maintenance, mannered gardens that rival traditional lawns. We selected native drought-resistant plants (such as California poppies and various succulents) to develop color and diversity while requiring very little watering to keep them alive. We also used natural stone for the pathways and decorative gravel to increase the beauty of the areas while improving drainage of water runoff on occasion. One of the challenges we had was the uneven topography in many of the front yards. All of the front yards were leveled and terrace by our specialists to make well-defined areas for planting, seating, and pathways. This design maximized usability while ensuring the gardens did not seem overly structured, but flow seamlessly as an organic garden would. In the end, the variation and textures of color are what struck our clients. Not only did each front yard reflect each homeowner's personality, but it truly felt wholly unique compared to other yards. Seating enhanced with lush greenery, artful boulders, and expanses of wildflowers hosting local pollinators all went into these unique arrangements. Overall, the Front Yards without Lawn showcases the quality of our services and our commitment to sustainable landscaping. Clients were able to enjoy pretty front yards that celebrated nature while reducing water and maintenance footprint.
