There were considerable existing challenges on the site including uneven grading and inadequate drainage. The landscape architects of Verde Creations, Inc. designed a multi-level garden that addressed the existing site problems while providing beauty and interest. Native plant varieties were used for sustainability given the local climate. The plants include California poppies, lavender, and ornamental grasses to provide seasonal colors without labor-intensive maintenance. The outdoor space was complemented by a defined, local-flagstone stone patio area that increases outdoor living space and continues the interior to exterior transition. It is configured in such a way that invites family gatherings while being a welcoming spot for entertaining guests. The addition of built-in seating areas and a fire pit were developed to provide additional comfort while maximizing function and views throughout the space. A new irrigation system was the next phase of functional improvement while controlling water usage and maintaining health and growth of plants. French drains were also built to address the poor drainage conditions and protect the landscape. However, the French drain improvements also promote healthy lawn and plant growth.
