Before & After DC Rowhouse Earth Essence Designs Earth Essence Designs is delighted to announce the launch of DC Rowhouse Before and After the 's stunning outdoor living transformation in Washington, DC. From Bethesda to Wheaton, our team took on the task of transforming a small city yard, once dominated by a tangle of shrubs and a haphazard expanse of concrete pavement. The first step in the design was conducting a site analysis to ensure we made the most of the existing space. The native plantings consisted of a palette of diverse perennials and grasses, adding color to the landscape and supporting local wildlife. Material selection was key to this where we used re-claimed brick for the pathway, remaining both sustainable and on trend while providing a sense of historicism appropriate for the rowhouse. The first and foremost one was the drainage problems that persisted at the site for several years. Our expert team installed a high-quality French drain system that drains excess water away from the property, protecting the landscaping and the home itself. New custom designed and built raised garden beds created interest in the space where the new clients could grow some of their own herbs and vegetables closer to the landscape to give them that sense of connection. In the end it looked absolutely phenomenal. The yard, which had been lifeless, now is a buzzing oasis with aitting area among ferns and flowers. The clients were over the moon with the result-an inviting sanctuary that added both aesthetic value to their home and a beautiful functional area when needing to escape and unwind or entertain.
