Burlingame - No Lawn Garden The Burlingame - No Lawn Garden by Greensleeves Garden Design is an exquisite transformation of a landscape that is sustainable and stunning. This is located in the middle of Burlingame and replaces traditional turf grass with a thoughtfully designed landscape that strives to be as diverse and aesthetic as possible. It offers an extensive range of some of the best native plants, drought tolerant perennials, and ornamental grasses that can be found in this region, and work together as a cohesive landscape requiring the least amount of water and maintenance. Beautiful locally sourced natural stone pathways meander throughout the garden, promoting exploration and inviting us to enjoy a wonderful connection to nature. Permeable pavers contribute to the aesthetic of the garden while helping manage water as it does, and fill in for drainage not often seen in the local area's landscapes. One of the major challenges was that we had to consider the topography of the land into the new design. We were able to manage the slopes with change in elevation. Terracing, introducing boulders, and tastefully placing plantings were designed to contribute visual interest while also managing soil erosion. The transformed what was once a gentle slope into a multi-dimensional landscape that improved the overall profile of the property while allowing this site to be a haven for local animals. Additionally, a dry creek bed allows for capturing rain and directs it within the site, avoiding water runoff, and improving groundwater recharge. Custom designed seating areas made of reclaimed wood are meant to invite contemplation, and relaxation in living color. In the end, there is a beautiful no-lawn garden that reflects a new standard in landscaping while considering the Earth. Our clients, in the end, were really pleased to have experienced this transformation, and now consider this garden an escape from their daily routine, as well as carved value to their property while providing positive benefits to the landscape.
