This created a multifunctional outdoor space that blends the beauty of nature with modern living in a cultural center of Jamaica Plain. Main Features: We combined a sustainable design palette of native plants with quality materials to develop a comfortable outdoor experience. The highlight of the is a custom cedar pergola prefabricated from sustainably sourced materials to provide both shade and a defined structure. The pergola is paired with a large composite deck, which enhances longevity and minimal maintenance, providing a durable surface for gathering and dining with family. Landscaping Components: A lush perennial flower garden borders the patio with a variety of colors from local hardy plants. We combined various textures and heights to create year-round interest, incorporating ornamental grasses and flowering shrubs. Natural stone pathways guide you through this perennial garden, re-enforcing the outdoor space's rustic qualities and easy access. Barriers Resolved: One of the main barriers of the was the existing slope of the property, which may have created limitations on accessibility and usability. Our team and contractors carefully graded the property's sloped surface creating an experience of tiered highlighted areas, improving accessibility and usability as well as the aesthetic experience. The consideration given to the the outdoor room and the slope makes the area feel open and spacious, exceeding the situational obstacles created by the property. Overall Outcome: The outcome is a stunning outdoor room that extends to the house for family gatherings, quiet evenings, and family playtime. The clients were ecstatic with the work and stated, "this is our favorite room - in the center of Jamaica Plain!"
