Historic Cambridge Property At 'a Blade of Grass,' we are very proud to deliver outdoor environments that are beautiful, meaningful, and an appropriate composition of history and modern style. One of our recent s, the Historic Cambridge Property, really illustrates this point. Located in the centre of Cambridge this property required a sensitive approach to ensure that the character was retained yet the natural beauty could be enhanced. The started with an intensive landscape assessment, where we identified the key attributes of the property (the traditional stonework and the established trees amongst others). While staying true to the historic character of the design, we had to figure out how to design modern elements to it. We used granite, sourced from a nearby quarry to create some of the paths and some of the retaining walls, to have the material that reflects the way of the architecture on the property. Native Plant Palette A diversity of regional natives selected by our expert horticulturists for seasonal interest and habitat value, with low environmental impact. They created a beautiful perennial garden to highlight a bold color scheme, then brought in an elegant water element for a calming effect. Strategic lighting was also used to highlight the architecture of the home and to extend the use of the outdoor areas to the evening hours. Process We faced some challenges during the such as uneven terrain and keeping the existing vegetation. A dedicated team rose to the challenge of overcoming these hurdles while being careful to maintain the purity of the landscape. The outcome was objectively an ideal union of function and form, with the outdoors becoming a calming hideaway. Our final presentation was well received, and our clients were excited to have a newly re-imagined outdoor area that would now become the ideal place for entertaining, meditative moments of solitude, and relaxation. Not only does our work beautify the landscapes, but it also adds vitality to life through the environment that surrounds it.
