Updated Colonial by Winston Fayer Landscape Design Winston Fayer Landscape Design is pleased to introduce the ‘Updated Colonial’ , a landscaping that fuses old-world charm with new-world sophistication. This home in the beautiful suburbs of New York presented an incredible opportunity for landscape improvement that would complement traditional Colonial architecture, while also addressing site challenges. The boasts a splendid landscape with a series of site enhancements including a front garden with native perennials, annuals, and ornamental shrubs which provide seasonal interest, to improve the landscape surrounding an impressive set of steps leading to the front door, which is also framed with ornamental grasses. Using bluestone, we created a pathway that brings people from the sidewalk to the steps and door that is flanked with the ornamental grasses that gently sway in the breezes. In the back of the property, we designed a patio for entertaining using reclaimed brick that provides an outdoor space that works with the indoor spaces of the house. To readily improve the curb appeal of the property we constructed a custom picket fence using sustainably sourced cedar, which complements the Colonial style architecture while providing a safe boundary for family and pets. The design of this improved landscape involved site challenges which included uneven ground and established tree roots. To make the proper adjustments for a landscape that not only works with Colonial appeal, but also functions properly for drainage and healthy plant maintenance, our team made use of quality materials, craftsmanship and technical experience to overcome these hurdles for a landscape that is functional and appealing! The end product was a delight for our clients! Their outdoor space is well-deserved and they now have an outdoor space that represents who they are and enhances the architecture of their home.
