Richardson Bay Overlook by Pedersen Associates Located on the spectacular waterfront of Richardson Bay, the Richardson Bay Overlook by Pedersen Associates is the ultimate in landscape design and implementation. Originally commissioned to convert a steep, rocky hillside into a tranquil refuge, this embodies our ethos of quality, craftsmanship, and environmental sensitivity. First, our design team faced a multitude of obstacles, including steep, uneven topography and the impact it would have on the existing wildlife habitat. After extensively planning the , we determined to utilize native species of plants that would survive in this coastal climate and preserve the habitat while also fostering biological diversity. We integrated an environmentally different array of drought tolerant plants including California lilacs and manzanitas, as well as many other vibrant planting that would bloom throughout the seasons. We constructed a series of terraced seating areas built with locally quarried stone and sustainably sourced materials that take advantage of the awe-inspiring views of the bay. The unique stonework of the walls, seating areas, and planters blends seamlessly with the rustic natural landscape, creating an effortless transition from the rocky cliffs to the peaceful acknowledgment of the calm bay waters below. Firmly established hardwood decking also assisted in elevating the detraction of the cliff height into the inviting seating areas. The design also featured an advanced irrigation system reconciled with a climate-related free plan to reduce water use while also nurturing and establishing plants. Our approach limits water usage and supports our efforts for sustainability. The end result is an overarching landscape that is both beautiful and functional. The Richardson Bay Overlook has had a very positive and enhanced impact for our clients, providing a welcoming sit and stay space for private contemplation, entertainment, or appreciation of nature.
