Bluff Top Garden The Bluff Top Garden , completed by Lisa Gimmy Landscape Architecture, is a remarkable transformation of a hillside property in the Greater Los Angeles area. This extensive landscape was directed by the client’s desire to take advantage of breathtaking views and varying topography, which made for some unique challenges that required careful workmanship and innovative solutions. At the heart of the design is a seamless expression of native and drought-tolerant plants, selected for their beauty and sustainability. Brightly colored succulents, fragrant lavender, and ornamental grasses were used in layers to complement the landscape, require the least amount of water, and create aesthetic interest. Stone pathways, sourced locally, were designed to invite the visitor through the garden space to help them appreciate the curated landscape. Another challenge was implementing a plan to address erosion on the steep bluff. As part of the solution, we applied terraced beds reinforced with natural boulders and native ground cover to reinforce the bluff while adding design character. This preserved the integrity of the bluff while creating eye catching levels to explore for visitors. A focal point of the Bluff Top Garden is the sizeable custom wooden pergola used for shaded space to relax and entertain, which is complemented by climbing plants and ambient lighting to provide an escape from the sun while enjoying the out-of-doors. A pergola gives the user a special place to sit to take in the view, which is a true reflection of the property. The end result is an inviting oasis that embodies the client’s wish for a tranquil garden setting while enhancing the visual quality of the natural beauty of Southern California. The Bluff Top Garden is a true product of quality and creativity that delighted the client with its elegance and usefulness, enhancing the value of the property and landscaping the community’s hospitality as a signature landscape in the region.
