Garden on the Arroyo 'Garden on the Arroyo,' finished by Lisa Gimmy Landscape Architecture, is an amazing transformation representing innovative design and craftsmanship in the Greater Los Angeles area. Located next to a beautiful arroyo, this emerged out of a desire to create an outdoor oasis that seamlessly blended nature with modern-day charm. The landscape is comprised of native planting palettes that are deliberately selected for outstanding durability while minimizing water use to promote sustainability and support local ecology. Paths bend throughout the environment with grains of decomposed granite sourced directly from the region, and connect spaces related together through design, where space is filled with the colors of wildflowers while greens abound in different varieties. The distinct form of the custom natural stone seating area is arguably the most unique purpose of the garden and was rounded to the viewing window of the pleasing view of the uninterrupted landscape. Significant to the , but certainly a challenge, was the steep slope and random soil conditions of the space. The practice of terracing enabled an effective soil strategy while natural boulders were applied to create flat planting areas and control erosion. This worked at spatial optimization while increasing the interest of the design, accomplishing a nice function with all that aesthetic. The water use conscious efficiency of the is accentuated through the landscape while still implementing a drip irrigation system. Low ambient light softened the space at no expense to illumination to draw attention to horticultural interest to create light gardens as appropriate coming into the transition of evening. Ultimately, the result is a most amazing outdoor oasis, and to the capacity that exceeds expectation around relaxing and entertaining.
