Small Intimate Courtyard Backyard Michael Glassman & Associates is proud to present the “Small Intimate Courtyard Backyard.” A transformation providing a retreat within the busy Greater Sacramento area. A in a small area that exemplifies our commitment to quality and innovation, reaching clients from Antelope to Yolo County. The courtyard has a unifying floor of natural stone pavers and wooden decking which are used in tandem with a casual meeting area to blend the outside with the inside space. Native plants are favored in the back yard, especially of the fragrant type, the satisfaction coming from their natural beauty and the selection of flowering perennials to provide color and cover and to support the local insect life. An interesting golf rewarding each visitor upon arrival is a custom made trellis utilized for meeting area, vine covered, providing ultimately shade but feeling open and airy. One of the serious challenges was the limited volume of the area used. A careful approach was necessary to satisfy the demands of appearance but also utility. Techniques of vertical gardening were aptly utilized here by incorporating up and over raised planters, optimizing visual as well as planting grid. The end result is a restful haven which encourages leisure and socializing, fitting into the client’s desires of the retreat of peace a good back yard should engender. The plan, layout and hard materials are all suited in their complexity to our value of a social enjoyment simple to navigate but one with the materials and location appropriate and matched.
