About This Project

Overview of the 'Spaces' by KDTurner Design Located in the heart of Newburyport, 'Spaces' is a delightful landscaping showcasing the creativity and capacity of KDTurner Design. Working with a variety of clients from Boxford, Ipswich, Newbury, and beyond, this blends aesthetics with practical considerations and is the transformation of an outdoor space that was not being used as the former client intended. The design integrates native plantings - perennials and ornamental grasses - that enhance beauty and sustain the local flora. In order to unify an outdoor living space, KDTurner Design installed natural stone paths from local granite sources allowing for lasting durability and elegance in even the toughest of New England winters. A significant challenge came from the uneven terrain, which was completely managed by the use of tiered garden beds that added a structure reflecting the client's personality, as well as enabling drainage. The stand-out of the space was the use of seat walls made of hand-laid stone surrounding the custom-built fire pit designed to create an environment for relaxing and socializing. A soft ambient light generates an inviting atmosphere while the fire pit serves as a gathering point, allowing the outdoor space to extend into the nighttime. To represent a sustainable practice rainwater infiltration was managed with the use of permeable pavers. KDTurner Design practices environmental responsibility throughout our design and construction practices. The final outcome is an exciting outdoor retreat that will not only attract the eye but also change and enhance the client's lifestyle. The mornings enjoyed with coffee among the flowers dominate to what will become the evening gatherings around the fire pit. Spaces has completely transformed the way the client interacts with their outdoor environment, not to mention provides a lifetime of memories.
