Plum Island Residence by KDTurner Design Situated along the tranquil shores of Plum Island, this Plum Island Residence by KDTurner Design showcases the seamless integration of nature with contemporary living environments. This involved a complete exterior landscaping transformation to an incredible outdoor space that harmonizes with the property’s coastal environment and enhances the architecture of the residence. As with any , our designers faced challenges, including the sandy soil and salt air. These challenges forced us to select resilient plants and durable and resilient materials. We specifically selected native grasses, ornamental shrubs, and perennial flowers that could not only survive the coastal conditions but also offer visual diversity and color in all seasons. Additionally, the installation of a permeable stone walkway made from local granite, enables foot traffic and appropriate natural drainage to relieve our raised garden beds of water runoff. To create an inviting feel, we designed a large cedar deck stepping into the natural landscape, thus providing a connection to the outdoors while also taking in natural sweeping views. The custom fire pit located within quiet seating areas offers a focal point for hosting family and friends and provides an inviting atmosphere for these long summer evenings. The end result is a dynamic landscape that is aligned with the client’s vision and will stand firm against the coastal elements. In addition to providing curb appeal, the Plum Island Residence serves a model for sustainability and conscientious decision-making for the environment. The clients were pleased with the result and expressed how the outdoor space provided both functionality and beauty together with nature, and relaxation.
