Working with what was previously a barren out-of-date landscape, we successfully fashioned a landscape blending nature with contemporary style, to create an outdoor paradise, enhancing the lifestyle of the homeowners. The began with a historical analysis of the site condition presented to us as there were several best practices we had to overcome. Poor topography conditions and limited sunlight in certain areas were among them. The site limitations were remediated with landscape tiered plant beds and path lighting that would allow for evening illumination as well as acknowledging certain plants. Important features of Ironwood Retreat include various drought tolerant plants, with native California plants playing a significant role. This native plant palette created a unique palette for color and texture change throughout the year while enhancing the sustainable principle of landscape architectural design. The also included a custom water feature as the site’s center point, which gives a supportive sound boundary while building ecosystem diversity to promote other wildlife. Using durable yet aesthetically pleasing materials was important. Natural stone was chosen for the patio and walkways, which followed the organic landscape and also further complemented a low maintenance plan. Seating areas were also built back into the plans making use of attractive plant specimens while offering an opportunity for our clients to plan relaxation.
