Fairfax Hideaway by Bon Terra Landscapes Inc. Located in the stunning town of Fairfax, the "Fairfax Hideaway" by Bon Terra Landscapes Inc. is a remarkable example of the dramatic impact of skilled landscaping. We were tasked with creating an outdoor retreat in tune with the natural beauty of Marin County but providing our clients a retreat. We began with a comprehensive site analysis to understand the specific topography and microclimates of the site. Our design included a variety of native planting, such as the gorgeous California poppy, aromatic lavender, and tough manzanita that required little maintenance and sustainability. We enhanced these with a thoughtful selection of stones to create a seamless flow through the space, including locally sourced river rock and reclaimed granite. A key challenge of this was the steep slope on the rear of the property, which we addressed with a set of terraced garden beds that improved aesthetics, and drainage and soil stability. The irrigation is both water efficient and supportive of the new plant growth. A key focal point of the Fairfax Hideaway is the outdoor living space, an artisanal cedar pergola providing shade and a retreat spot with the adjoining natural stone fire pit for evening family gatherings under the stars. Around this area are lush materials and aromatic herbs providing an inviting experience. Throughout the , we emphasized quality craftsmanship while also considering design and detail. Each piece was purposely chosen to provide a cohesive entity while providing our clients a design that respected the natural environment. The end product is an authentic retreat that provides the clients with aesthetically rewarding and functional living space for gatherings with families and friends while also improving property value.
