About This Project

La Jolla Slope Planting Groundswell Landscaping is excited to share the La Jolla Slope Planting , located in the beautiful coastal community of La Jolla, California. The underlying goal of the was to improve the natural aesthetics of this hillside site while also addressing functional issues related to soil erosion and water drainage. Our team utilized native plants, including colorful succulents and grasses that are drought tolerant, to create a sustainable landscape that can thrive in the local climate. The steep slope faced one of the biggest challenges, particularly in designing terracing solutions and retaining opportunities. We used high-quality natural stone for the retaining walls to maintain structural stability while blending into the existing environment as much as possible, and they effectively prevented erosion of the soil, while also creating attractive and draped tiers for planting that accentuated the overall planting design. Our horticulturists also spent time selecting and placing the plants, which assisted in biodiversity and attracting pollinators to the established planting. The end result is a green and lush planting with various textures and seasonal blooms, providing year-round interest. There is an integrated drip irrigation system for efficiently managing water use and the health of the plants and sustainable use of water. In the end, the outcome has met or exceeded our client’s expectations to turn a difficulty slope into a beautiful display of nature that enhances their home and neighborhood aesthetically and practically.
