Firepits and Outdoor Fireplaces by Graham Kimak Landscape Designs Graham Kimak Landscape Designs, located in the beautiful hillside areas of Upstate South Carolina and Western North Carolina just recently completed a remarkable to create a cozy backyard retreat featuring custom firepits and outdoor fireplaces. This started with the intention of creating an outdoor living space for family and friends to gather as often as possible, year-round. The intended design consisted of two firepits, one round and one rectangular, both intricately designed to match the home's architecture. Each firepit was constructed with authentic natural stone, surrounded by a rustic gravel patio, and provided warmth and a central gathering area. Major challenges included designing the fire features into the existing landscape while ensuring safety and use of the space. With focus on seating and traffic flow, our team planned carefully for the space; included appropriate seating size, weather-resistant materials, and placement of lighting to provide ambience without over illuminating the night experiences around the fire features. In addition to the firepits, we designed a statement outdoor fireplace from fieldstone personally selected by the homeowner, custom mantle, and a place to store firewood. This provided increased aesthetic and warmth; as well as a method for cooking for outdoor cooking enthusiasts. In the end, we were able to create a breathtaking outdoor living space for the homeowners that far exceeded their expectations. The utilized natural materials, was planned out thoughtfully and constructed with attention to detail. The outdoor living experience provides an inviting feel, while becoming part of the existing landscape. Once completed, there was a sense of ownership, not just in landscaping, but also, an investment in their quality of living for years of outdoor enjoyment and memories under the stars. Now they can enjoy evenings and weekends by the fire features, with joy, family and friendship around them.
