of the Spanish Courtyard Retreat by Park Slope Design Set against the picturesque backdrop of Santa Fe, Park Slope Design is proud to introduce the ‘Spanish Courtyard Retreat’, a revitalization of a garden that embraces the aesthetics and charm of Spanish style architecture. This peaceful outdoor environment is enhanced with a mix of native plants, passive or walking stone paths, and colorful tiles common in regional design. To help the client realize their envisioned space, we carefully selected low-water use plants, such as lavender, agave, and ornamental grasses, in order to be environmentally sustainable and have plants that are of interest throughout the year. The designed central fountain of locally sourced terracotta serves as a stunning focal point of the courtyard that adds a peaceful, auditory experience to the environment. The most challenging aspect of the property was the sloped and uneven terrain. This challenge was resolved through a multi-tiered design, incorporating natural boulders and reclaimed wood to create beautiful and functional terraces to add depth and play in the courtyard space. The paths incorporated hand-cut flagstone and transition seamlessly from one garden, or sitting area, to another to pleasantly encourage exploration and trigger contemplative relaxation. The end product is a beautiful, functional retreat that draws together the aesthetic appeal of the home and invites enjoyment for the current and future homes. The client shared their appreciation for the memories created and our attention to detail in the design. They expressed their excitement at using the retreat as their favorite gathering spot with family and friends.
