Mountain Canvas from Duke’s Landscape Company Located in the calm foothills of Evergreen, the 'Mountain Canvas' is a testament to the Duke’s Landscape Company belief that learning how to create spectacular outdoor areas comes directly from the infused experience of Colorado's nature. This beautiful vacation home landscape renovation was requested by a family that wanted to connect their home to the vibrant mountains surrounding Colorado. The process of this began with thoughtful design work that involved executing a complete site inventory. As a team we considered the landscape features, including existing topography and some plants - which then controlled our thinking materiality. Using locally sourced stone for dry stacked retaining walls gave visual support in the natural environment while also supporting the sloped yard. We were also able to source permeable pavers for the driveway and paths to promote sustainability while draining rains that occasionally surge through the area. The structure of the is the substantial tiered garden of a diverse palette of native drought resistant plants - such as lavender, sage, ornamental grasses and more! Native flowers not only add great visual appeal but attract the wildlife living locally. Water erosion retention after cultivating steep site grades was a pivotal challenge. The porous landscapes craftsman team utilized erosion control fabrics and stabilizing boulders to supplement the stability and build a picturesque landscape - that fit the land's natural continuum. The final outcome is a grand approach that compliments the characteristic architecture of the home while also fusing with the environmental spaces. The fire pit area graciously transitions the landscaping by providing green foliage spaces with accessible seating to entertain friends, family, and community exchanges below the stars.
