Quetzal Landscapes, Inc. was pleased to be part of the ‘San Diego’ which transformed a private residence to reflect the beauty of the coastal climate of Southern California. Located in La Jolla, the exhibits a clever combination of native drought tolerant plants, flowering perennials, and thoughtfully designed hardscape. The context of the has a strong emphasis on sustainability, without compromising the beauty of the property. Using long-lasting materials, such as natural stone walks, all-weather composite decking, and elegant boulders that fit the perspective of the surrounding area, the designers created a beautiful residence. The team soon realized the difficulty of the property’s size and the challenges of variances in shade and sun exposure. Tiered planting beds combined with vintage stone walls brought plants closer together visually and improved soil drainage. After the work was finished, the designs reflected the owner’s vision while enhancing the area. A gorgeous tranquil garden became a highlight of the property providing a water feature that draws and engages local wildlife. The plant choices and arrangement provide a lively, spectacular display while still providing a functional outdoor space.
