The design process began with an extensive site analysis, allowing us to optimize the however of views of the bay while preserving the local landscape form. We took consideration to use varieties of drought resistant plants that perform in our Marin climate, such as California poppies, lavender, and succulents, moving towards not only a sustainable planting palette, but a low maintenance garden. We chose locally sourced stone for the granitique (detailing a daily likeliness) gravel pathway/terrace, adding rustic charm while supporting the desired realism for the area. One of the major hurdles on this was the sloped terrain, which required extensive grading and terracing to accommodate functional spaces without the drainage compromise. Our very skilled and experienced craftspeople were able to overcome this challenge by devising a curved staircase that would link/end the levels of the garden, providing this journey through the garden. The focal point of the Tiburon Bay View is a peaceful pond comprising native aquatic plants and a small pond waterfall that adds ambiance and a relaxing feeling. The pond is surrounded by a particularly patterned stone terrace used for outdoor entertaining and to observe the sunsets on the bay.
