Client: Chinick Landscaping & Nursery Rural Contemporary Emerging from within the pulse of the Portland Metro area is Chinick Landscaping & Nursery's very own gift; a beautiful home turn-over they call their 'Rural Contemporary' . Ranch House & Garden takes pride to marry contemporary building with old-world rusticity an ideal outdoor oasis for the homeowner that just wants a space to feel relaxing with some sophistication to it. At first, as with any of this magnitude, we zoomed out and performed a thorough site assessment that described the particularities of the land and existing conditions. One of the key challenges for our team was to retain the rustic character of the existing landscape whilst also weaving in modern elements. We achieved this goal by choosing locally-sourced high-quality native plants that support sustainability with high survivorship and therefore require no or very low maintenance. With a mix of polished stone and the rustic clay of gravel pathways the inviting 'Rural Contemporary' landscape guides the visitor through arranged garden spaces. A custom cedar, shaded pergola is the centerpiece of this space that provides the perfect outdoor gathering locale. Reclaimed wood is also incorporated throughout the landscape which adds character and warmth while modern lighting fixtures bring the space to life after dark. Smart irrigation systems were implemented to save resources, while a pond was built to frame a sense of stillness welcoming local wildlife and boosting area biodiveristy. Terracing not only made even the most difficult parts of the site accessible, but added to the impressiveness of the visuals, and our team worked hard to overcome the many challenges posed by the land. The end product is a balance, pleasing to the client and reflective of the rural context. The 'Rural Contemporary' is a product of watchful craftsmanship, creative design, and customer service, fully in line with the core policy of Chinick Landscaping & Nursery. This is a perfect example of a finished , where every detail is executed Dictionary style, with the finished product being a lovely zen space for the customer to enjoy for Years to come.
