St. Croix Overlook

St. Croix Overlook Savanna Designs, Inc. is thrilled to introduce what is sure to be a remarkable landscaping at a hillside site overlooking the scenic St. Croix River. Located in the heart of the Minneapolis and St. Paul Metro areas, this was an exquisite opportunity for a seamless blend of nature and design in order to fulfill the client’s dream of a tranquil outdoor atmosphere. The included a diverse arrangement of native plantings, including colorful wildflowers and tough, durable perennials, to beautify the landscape while accommodating local biodiversity. We incorporated high-quality, local materials including natural stone boulders and reclaimed timber to build terraced gardens that flowed from one level to another on the existing grade. The properties steep slope posed a significant issue to the , as nearly all of the landscapes durability and aesthetic would depend on preventing soil erosion and promoting the stability of the hardscape components after years of its landscape exposure. Our landscape architects engineered various rich stone walls to effectively manage the above mentioned concerns while adding interest to the aesthetic appeal of the terrace. A winding path from permeable pavers was designed and installed to allow for ease of navigation from space to space within the grades slope while encouraging water drainage on site. The most notable aspect of the was an exceptional view of the river that was helped further with several designated places to sit and now enjoy above and surrounded by landscape with soft views up and down river. Custom benches and fire pits constructed from natural materials, as well as sophisticated and soft landscape lighting, helped to create a warm, relaxing and inviting mood for immersing yourself in the landscape both day and night. The result of our efforts transformed this family’s outdoor space into sanctuary of peace and relaxation while truly honoring the natural Minnesota landscape. With careful attention to detail and a high level of craftsmanship Savanna Designs, Inc. has turned ‘St. Croix Overlook’ into an exquisite example of sustainable and beautiful landscaping for years to enjoy.
