About This Project

Austere The Austere by Wantland Ink Landscape Architecture, PLLC showcases a modern design approach combined with the beauty of nature to rejuvenate a private estate within the city limits of Nashville. The complete landscape included a very strong combination of native plants, sustainable materials, and unique hardscaping features that honored the architecture of the house. One of my favorite components of the Austere is a custom stone terrace built from local limestone that is now the heart of outdoor parties. That area is surrounded by a diverse collection of drought-tolerant plants - ornamental grasses and flowering perennials - that not only look incredible but create biodiversity. We applied a permeable paver system in the driveway to promote water infiltration and drainage management while still providing a modern touch to the architectural assembly. In this , we faced the challenge of a steeply sloping site, which required the landscape architect to think creatively to improve aesthetics and usability without taxing the land. The landscape architect used terracing techniques to create level, usable areas, while utilizing boulders found on site to help shape the features and not disrupt the existing grading of the site. These tools combined resulted in complex layers that draw the eye and invite exploration. The outcome is a peaceful landscape that responds to the client's desire to minimize the upkeep while enjoying beautiful outdoor spaces with family and friends. The client had only positive things to say thinking how well and seamlessly the hardscape connects to the softscape to create an oasis of beauty and simplicity. This is a great example of Wantland Ink’s commitment to quality craftsmanship and innovative design in landscape architecture for the Betterment of the communities in Belle Meade, Brentwood, Forest Hills, Oak Hill, etc.
