Hillsborough Modern by Terra Ferma Landscapes Set in the heart of Hillsborough, Terra Ferma Landscapes designed the 'Hillsborough Modern' to exemplify contemporary living and natural beauty. Serving the exciting communities of Burlingame, San Francisco, Menlo Park, and beyond; Terra Ferma was tasked with creating a resort in someone's backyard that reflected a modern aesthetic on a large residential property. This contains an incredibly elaborate layout to fit into the existing landscape. The key components of this layout include a stunning hardscape made from high-end bluestone pavers. The pavers provide a sleek and durable outdoor surface for entertaining. We designed and constructed a custom fire pit with furniture-style seating around it to be the centerpiece. Thoughtful landscape lighting further improves having leisure gatherings throughout the evening hour as the sun sets. Terra Ferma overcame the challenge of creating site functions using a slope by using sophisticated terracing methods and creating tiered gardens. In addition to creating visual interest, the tiered system helped mitigate drainage and enhance the soil's health. The lush plant palette was sustainably chosen to require the least amount of maintenance, given the property is located in a subtropical environment. Everything used, from the ornamental grasses to succulents and upright flowering plants, was deliberately selected based on establishing a variety of textures and colors. The water feature is a beautiful exemplification of creativity. The water cascades down the tiered gardens and makes calming sounds to divert stress. It also creates value for the surrounding habitat. In the end, 'Hillsborough Modern' is a visually striking landscape that represents harmony in function with form, the client was thrilled. Terra Ferma Landscapes was proud to turnaround this specific to exceed expectations anywhere from time to finances, or just overall.
