Urban Lodge by In Harmony Sustainable Landscapes The Urban Lodge , located in a lively community in Puget Sound, showcases the artistry and craftmanship of In Harmony Sustainable Landscapes. This design-led landscape , in Edmonds, was aimed at blending the beauty of the Pacific Northwest with the ease of living in the urban environment. The Urban Lodge brims with native plants that have been selected not only for their beauty and ability to thrive in the climate, but also to increase biodiversity and promote localized horticultural education. At the center of the composition, a water feature with locally-sourced basalt stone and dressed rock lends a meditative aspect to this oasis. A custom patio of reclaimed hardwood surrounds the water feature, creating an inviting space to gather and breaking down the barriers of indoor and outdoor spaces. As with many of our s, the site presented a challenge of steep drop-off. The In Harmony team solved this issue of steepness by designing terraced gardens that incorporated sustainable materials, permeability pavers, and natural stone. This effective and durable structure helped prevent erosion of the soil and increase draining away from the home. The sustainable principles in construction and design, like permeable pavers and native planting, were meant to safeguard the landscape's longevity, stability, and general sustainability, in turn minimizing the overall impact on the environment. When considering the lighting we included as part of the landscaping, we kept in mind the mood, energy efficiency and use of the space. Our consideration of both aesthetic and functionality allowed for the energy efficient headlights to enhance the beauty of the landscaped areas while offering enough light for safety purposes at night. We took great care to promote a superior blend of rustic characteristics whilst offering modern style, that offered to express functionality coincident with the clients vision for their lifestyle. Urban Lodge has as much aesthetic appeal for our clients as it does increase value throughout the neighborhood.
