- West Seattle Eco-friendly Home The West Seattle Eco-friendly Home , created by In Harmony Sustainable Landscapes, is an example of a landscape unifying nature with a modern lifestyle. Located in West Seattle, this environmentally-focused reflects the methodology of the In Harmony Sustainable Landscapes brand. The nonsymmetrical landscape has an amazing array of expertly chosen native plantings, adopted to thrive in the climate and attract beneficial wildlife. Droughttolerant species such as salal, Oregon grape and red flowering currant were selected to limit water use and maintenance. The use of permeable paving stones both provided visual encouragement in the landscape and worked with the natural drainage system to limit runoff and promote groundwater recharge. One of the major issues we faced on this was the steep topography of the site. Our talented team engineered terraced garden beds that not only added visual interest but prevented soil erosion from the sloped topography of the site. The garden raised garden beds were engineered to be aesthetically pleasing, using locally sourced cedar logs that added sustainability to the . In addition to the native plantings and engineered garden beds, a rain garden was installed capturing and filtering stormwater runoff; therefore improving the eco-friendly properties of the home. The rain garden showcased an assemblage of wetland plants providing habitat for local fauna species while managing the flow of water that would normally runoff. The end result of this amazing landscape was a beautifully thought-out landscape working with the architecture of the home to provide a relaxing lifestyle for the family. The homeowners were elated with the final outcome of the landscape design , demonstrating a beautiful and functional balance of landscape. The West Seattle Ecofriendly Home is a visually outstanding example of In Harmony Sustainable Landscapes craftmanship, sustainable land design and construction that serves the broader communities of King and Snohomish counties and beyond.
