This was intended to create a calming getaway space that honors the existing mature trees and coastal forest quality the site embodies while still creating usable social space for our client and their family. We worked hard to select primarily native plants for the landscape, incorporating a variety of ferns, flowering woody shrubs, and ornamental grasses to promote biodiversity and continuity throughout the seasons. Additionally, natural stone was used to create the paths throughout the site in keeping with the woodland aesthetic. The natural granite stone was sourced locally for added sustainability and durability. The paths were designed to allow guests to walk through and enjoy the space while leading to inviting multi-generational scales of seating, both for relaxation and social endeavors with family, fostered by connections with the natural environment. During implementation of the vision, we faced a major challenge with the uneven grade of the site, as well as previously established invasive plants that threatened the native plants. Our professional landscapers took care to address this issue in their work, as well as enhance the soil to encourage health growth of the plants and mitigate erosion through use of bioengineered erosion methods that respected the ecology of the area.
