About This Project

South Loop Terrace BRL LANDesign South Loop Terrace Urban Outdoor Space within Chicago The work was inspired by the client who wanted a functional yet beautiful sanctuary within a busy urban set up. South Loop Terrace: Sustainable Beauty from Native Planting and Modern Design To increase diversity while creating an easy to maintain, drought resistant planting, we introduced working with perennials, ornamental grasses, and flowering shrubs. We swept the area with custom stone paths of locally-sourced bluestone for strength with understated elegance. A big challenge for us was dealing with the existing unlevel ground which needed to be graded out and soil stabilized. Using modern techniques, our experienced team ensured that the water would properly drain after rain, eliminating the risk of a puddle and erosion. We also put a full-system irrigation to allow plants to be watered perfectly, including when the summer is hot. The end product is a stunning terrace that finds perfect harmony between nature and contemporary living. The seating area is made of recycled wood and is designed for comfort, offering good views of the surroundings. Added subtle lighting to the terrace reinforces the character of the terrace where it can be enjoyed from day to night. With close attention to detail and a focus on craftsmanship and high-quality finishes, the South Loop Terrace has become a beloved retreat for our client, who said the space was now "the best part of her home." Clearly, this illustrates not only what BRL LANDesign believes it is capable of in the sphere of excellence, but it also solidifies our desire to keep creating beautiful, functional outdoor environments in the Chicago area, as well as its adjacent communities such as Evanston and Lincolnwood.
