Somerville Backyard Renovation Executed by Village Stonesmith Gardens & Masonry, the Somerville Backyard Renovation truly embodies our philosophy of quality and innovation in landscaping. This was designed for a peaceful outdoor getaway that is respectful of the historical architecture in the neighborhood of Somerville. The renovation consisted of a beautiful mixture of hardscaping and softscaping. Hardscaping included a stone patio made from locally sourced bluestone that will be a strong foundation for outdoor entertainment. Softscaping included a winding pathway made from natural flagstone with perennial beds that come alive with color throughout the seasons. One of the challenges we faced was the site condition with uneven terrain. This required us to create graded areas and drainage solutions that accommodated proper water use and reduced erosion. Retaining walls made from reclaimed granite were built to allow for tiered garden areas. We designed a fire pit area surrounded by natural boulders to create an intimate outdoor conversation area and also built a wooden pergola that adds both shade and character to outdoor living spaces. In addition, our landscape design made use of native plants that not only require less maintenance, but also promote ecological benefits. In the end, our clients were amazed and beyond satisfied, and the backyard renovation exceeded expectations. This was a great mix of materials, thoughtful design, and purposeful craftsmanship that created a personal oasis outdoors that is both beautiful and functional.
