Concord Backyard by Village Stonesmith Gardens & Masonry Located in the tranquil town of Concord, this striking transformation of a client's backyard by Village Stonesmith Gardens & Masonry is a testament to our ability to cultivate beautiful, livable outdoor spaces with exceptional craftsmanship. We had our first meeting with the clients, who shared a vision for a multifunctional outdoor space that would seamlessly combine form and function for family gatherings, as well as relaxing at the end of the day. To achieve their vision, our first step was to complete a thorough site analysis to examine the unique features of the site, and to understand some of the challenges of a sloping landscape. We introduced locally-sourced, higher-end materials that provided beautiful accents throughout the property while adhering to some much-needed erosion control. In particular, the beautiful bluestone used for the patio will hold up an immense amount of foot traffic throughout all seasons, while also adding beauty and slip resistance (essential for winter enjoyment). Through the design process, a fire pit area was properly placed as a centerpiece in the design, surrounded by various native plantings which would attract pollinators and contribute to the ecology of the site. We utilized a palette of perennials and ornamental grasses, each color and texture selected in regard to seasonal interest, while balancing the need for around-the-clock irrigation that the clients could maintain with minimal effort. Another primary design challenge is incorporating the existing mature trees in the existing design. Our craftspeople again took extreme care to retain these natural assets, even mid-creating shaded seating areas to enhance the client's day-to-day enjoyment while experiencing the warm summer days. Furthermore, we created proper outdoor lighting that would accentuate both the existing hardscapes and new landscapes, allowing use well into the night. At the end of the , the clients successfully achieved a hybrid of function and beauty where they can enjoy family barbecues, quiet evenings at the fire, as well as quiet nature watch throughout the seasons. The owners requested a space that accomplished most of their desires, while we sought to raise the bar on outdoor areas in the Greater New England region. Finally, we were not only pleased to enhance their property, but also deliver attention to detail and excellence in craftsmanship, which demonstrates that we are the continuous preference for a landscaping in Concord and surrounding areas.
