Dry Streams, Rain Gardens and Bog Gardens

Earth Design, Inc│Dry Streams, Rain Gardens & Bog Gardens _DESCRIPTION Earth Design, Inc. has a passion for landscape design that inspires the creation of sustainable landscapes that become beautiful havens! Here is a recent installation, Dry Streams, Rain Gardens and Bog Gardens, that embodies our ethos of sustainable design and function. With the beautiful areas of Dunean, Five Forks, Fountain Inn, just to a few in with the background, we took on the the challenge of increasing beauty, and improving the environmental health. Included in these plans was a beautifully designed dry stream bed, where local river rock and natural boulders flow to create the appearance of water moving through the property. The dry stream is an eye-catching addition, as well as an effective tool for stormwater management by directing surplus water away from the home and curbing erosion. Also, we created a more lush rain garden using local plants that do well in the climate where we lived in addition to providing the dry stream. Placed to intercept runoff from roofs and driveways, the rain garden converts flooding events into plant renewal opportunities. Then filled it with a riot of drought-tolerant perennial plants and ornamental grasses that bloom and leaf throughout the year, adding colour, textural diversity, and essential biodiversity as well, inviting the pollinators and birds in. One addition to the design was included in the form of a bog garden creating a microsystem and a showplace for moisture loving plants. A small wildlife area was created here with appropriate soils and a gentle water flow; it provides habitat for animals and adds to the tranquility of the landscape. This provided challenges at times during the with differing soil conditions and maximizing how much drainage is needed while keeping the aesthetic design factor of the intact. The experienced team behind this took special care to utilize advanced landscaping techniques along with top quality materials from local suppliers to promise it will be an enduring feature. The end result was a stunning vista that blew the client away. A retreat that charms the senses, this holistic habitat absorbs light and sound, offering environmental services while meditating heart and mind, the natural elements integrated with their surroundings. The client was thrilled with the transformation and loved the way sustainability was so naturally integrated into their outdoor space.
