Bank Barn by Hess Landscape Architects Located in the heart of Lansdale, the 'Bank Barn' by Hess Landscape Architects is a stunning combination of functional and beauty. This large outdoor living space was designed to portray the existing barn's rustic charm while creating a convivial public place for gathering and relaxing. The included an impressive selection of native plantings that would not only grow well in the climate but would also attract desirable wildlife. Visitors enter the lush gardens via a thoughtfully constructed bluestone pathway, which brings you to the beautiful seating area defined by ornamental grasses and flowering perennials. The thoughtfully designed landscape was developed with sustainability in mind by using permeable pavers to effectively manage the stormwater and reduce water runoff. The had a few challenges, which included integrating drain structures without compromising the historic barn. Hess Landscape Architects addressed the challenges creatively by designing grade changes and utilizing custom-cut natural stone retaining walls that enhanced the landscape while improving stability. The result is an inviting outdoor space that complements the rustic character of the Bank Barn and provides a focal point for family and friends.
