Sorrel

Sorrel by Hess Landscape Architects Located in Lansdale, the 'Sorrel' is a testament to the talent and skills of Hess Landscape Architects. By creating a sophisticated landscape design, the Sorrel transformed the outdoor space into a tranquil retreat that was both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The began with a site assessment completed by our team of Will Kreher (Coordinator), and Holli Tellam (Design) who determined that, at a minimum, there was an opportunity for a multi-level garden that would benefit not only the visual aesthetics of the property but also improve drainage issues on site. The team selected native material and locally sourced plants such as perennials and ferns for the entire design, incorporating plants that do not require significant maintenance while also instigating local biodiversity. The focal point of the Sorrel is the visually stunning stone patio of locally sourced bluestone, which we applied throughout the design that blended seamlessly into the surroundings. The outdoor living area also comprises custom seating areas and a fire pit to allow the family to enjoy social gatherings or quiet evenings outside. The permeable pavers we chose here contribute to the overall design as they allow water to absorb through to the soil while keeping runoff at bay while addressing drainage issues on site. While managing the throughout installation, the team was challenged with unlevel surfaces and compacted soils, but through creative grading practices and sustainability principles that justified soil health, we further completed the at Sorrel. The landscape not only reflects the client's vision for the space but also benefits the greater ecological integrity of the site and community. Finally, to create a magical experience after dark, we installed soft landscape lighting to highlight the natural aspect of the florae in the nighttime hours, providing both pleasure and joy to the family's spaces and gatherings. Ultimately, our was an exciting process to work on, where comprehension to craftsmanship and quality service stood out to our clients. We shared their energy in the entire process and are so pleased with the final as a creativity inspired landscape.
