Hillsboro Rd. Residence Completion by Myers + Co. Landscape Architecture Located in the scenic Hillsboro Rd. neighborhood, the Hillsboro Rd. Residence represents the quality craftsmanship and design for which Myers + Co. Landscape Architecture has become recognized in the greater Louisville area, including Brownsboro Farm, Green Spring, and Hurstbourne Acres. The residential landscape was meant to celebrate the natural beauty of the home and create a usable outdoor space for relaxation and entertainment. The began with a thorough site assessment which allowed our team to explore the site's particular challenges including the sloping site, and existing vegetation. In providing a balanced, suitable, and engaging landscape, we created tiered gardens in a diverse landscape that provided visual interest and accessibility to the areas. Locally quarried stone was used for retaining walls that helped build the structural integrity of the garden beds and allowed for a smooth and fluid transition between the plantings and the surrounding environment. In the site center, there is a custom locally sourced multi-level patio is constructed from durable, sustainable materials that address the variability of the weather associated with Kentucky. This patio space creates an excellent opportunity for gathering, featuring built-in seating and a fire pit, which allows for year-round outdoor use. As a buffer to the patio, a plant palette of several locally sourced and sustainable species that assimilate to the local climate not only completes the design aesthetically, but also ensures the sustainability of the landscape while providing very little maintenance and upkeep. As a solution for draining, we developed a potential rain garden, to redirect water runoff, mitigate rainfall, while also creating a positive habitat for local fauna. The rain garden verifies our intention of being a sustainable landscape practice. Ultimately, the design results in a stunning outdoor retreat that integrates seamlessly with the home and existing architecture. The client was thrilled with the results not just from a design and aesthetic standpoint, but also with the forethought of space usability. The final outcome is a tribute and representation of Myers + Co. Landscape Architecture quality craftsmanship, innovative design, that resulted in a distinct outdoor retreat for the homeowner, and beauty in the neighborhood.
