Massie Avenue Residence by Myers + Co. Landscape Architecture Located in the city of Louisville, the Massie Avenue Residence is a successful marriage of beauty and functionality, completed by Myers + Co. Landscape Architecture. This garden journey included many visually stunning features and elements to embrace the natural beauty of the property, while also creating space for outdoor living. Elements of this apply a rustic theme that blends local materials with support for local biodiversity with a beautiful and low-maintenance garden for the homeowner. Some key design elements include a detailed stone path that leads visitors through a robust garden palette comprised of native plant species, seasonal bloom plants for color and texture, hardy evergreen bushes for privacy, and to establish a windbreak, and various other perennial plants. One of the challenges that Myers + Co. faced with the involved the slope of the site. A tiered garden approach was taken, preserving some natural terracing to assist drainage and stabilize soils. Decorative retaining walls were built using reclaimed brick to manage the slope while complementing the character of the residence. To extend the livability of the outdoor space, a custom timber pergola was incorporated into the landscape; the pergola was designed to provide shade and space for family outdoor social gatherings. Climbing vines, which bloom in spring, were strategically placed on the pergola to establish an inviting concept for the garden. The outcome for the design process exhibited thoughtfulness and quality that met and exceeded the client's expectation. The Massie Avenue Residence is now a peaceful retreat that responds to the client's lifestyle, blending beauty and functionality, which is a tribute to quality and innovation offered by Myers + Co. in designing residential landscapes. Ultimately, this has enhanced the value of the property by creating a welcoming landscape for family and friends for years to come.
