The "Forest Trail Place" Residence By Myers + Co. Landscape Architecture Located in the lovely town of Brownsboro Farm, the by Myers + Co. Landscape Architecture entitled "Forest Trail Place" showcases how site and architecture can blend to enrich the property. The goal was for the landscape to spark imagination and be the perfect catalyst for designing both functional spaces to use with family and friends, as well as, to compliment the home and surrounding landscape. A gently winding path made of natural stone, sourced from nearby quarries marks the journey through beds of native plants and flora, with perennials carefully interspersed to mark times of the growing season. Sustainability was a focal point of the to ensure that the landscape enhanced its surroundings while minimizing environmental impact. A highlight and the centerpiece of the garden was the serene water feature that offered a sound of falling water and a natural habitat for koi, while drawing the eye in all directions. One of the challenges to the was the steep slope that created barriers to accessibility, but ultimately encouraged inventive solutions to the design. Through the use of grading and retaining walls, Myers + Co. created tiered gardens out of the slope that would soften the boundaries of the landscape and define spaces with depth and dimensionality. The included outdoor living spaces, noting specifically a large deck of sustainably harvested hardwood for families to socialize on, as well as enjoy beautiful views and the surrounding nature. Next to the deck, an ADA compliant fire pit afforded a cozy space for the family to experience evenings outside sharing stories their adventures or gazing at the stars. Overall, the Forest Trail Place Residence gave the client a beautiful and calm retreat that served the family, ecological systems, and reflected their beliefs and wellness practices. The collaboration of hardscaping and softscaping not only benefits the homeowner, but ensures the chosen flora and native plants will be successful. Myers + Co.
