Located in picturesque Westchester County, the Riverhouse is a showcase of the incredible talent and effort that Pierce Hill Design, Ltd. exuded in transforming a large riverside property into a retreat that melds the surrounding nature and functional outdoor living. Our team prepared a design that included a generously proportioned terrace in locally sourced bluestone, providing a high-quality but steadfast surface for outdoor activities. The terrace was framed by beautifully honed stone walls that both enclosed the space and offered structural support. In consideration of the natural aesthetics of the property, we cultivated a diverse plant palette that comprised a number of native plantings, including perennials and shrubs that were fit to enhance the color, texture, and wildlife of the grounds. A fundamental obstacle for the team was sloped terrain leading down to the river. We developed a multi-tiered arrangement of terraced gardens on the site to cover the slope of the property. Large boulders and reclaimed timber were repurposed and made for striking levels where the boulders framed an eye-pleasing perspective down to the water's edge. Not only did we maximize the craft of the space, but we also offered erosion prevention. As an additional component throughout the , sustainable practices were a priority. For stormwater management, we installed a rain garden with a variety of native wetland plants to filter and absorb the excess water. An ecological function as part of the overall program ensures both aesthetic value and environmental responsibility. The final had a successful blend of function and beauty, providing homeowners with a comfortable escape that encompasses riverside living.
