Overview of the Master Plan for the Alternative Maine School The Coastal Landscape designed the 'Master Plan for the Alternative Maine School' in Bremen, evidencing our strong belief in designing meaningful outdoor learning spaces. This extensive landscaping provided new ways to enrich the student experience, while developing a meaningful connection to outdoor spaces. The Coastal Landscape designed native plant gardens, outdoor classrooms, and multiple amenity areas - paying close attention to the quality of materials, including locally sourced stone for the path systems and outdoor learning spaces constructed of durable, environmentally conscious decking. The addition of rain gardens promotes aesthetic value while providing an opportunity for storm water management, embodying the idea of sustainability and its significance. Throughout the , there were challenges when confronted with uneven terrain and existing vegetation. Our knowledgeable team employed innovative grading techniques and selective pruning to bring the new landscape together with the existing context on the site. Our concern for techniques that blend the landscaping and natural conditions were key to fulfilling the integrity of the site and its usability. The outcome produced an enlivened landscape of multi-purpose that invites learners to use the space. The addition of native planting provides seasonal appearance, while shaded seating areas abound. The client was excited the completed and shared with us the area represented a new living space that has expanded their educational philosophy.
