About This Project

Native Plant Landscape by Magee Design Magee Design recently completed a unique landscaping called the 'Native Plant Landscape' in the beautiful area of Northern Virginia, from Aldie to Upperville. The was created to showcase the beauty and ecological value of native plants and to create a sustainable landscape that co-exists within the local ecosystem. The main focus of this landscape was to replace conventional turf grass and non-native plants with a variety of native species that will thrive in Northern Virginia's climate. The design team chose plants including, but not limited to Eastern Redbud, Black-Eyed Susan, and Virginia Bluebell that not only makes a colorful palette but makes the landscape interesting year-round. Natural stone pathways were included, making the landscape walkable while contributing to a natural aesthetic. An important consideration for this was the topographical challenges of the property, which warranted some grading and soil amendments to ensure there was proper drainage and healthy soil. The design team also consider sustainable methods using locally sourced materials and native plants that required little irrigation so the client saves on both water usage and maintenance. The final product is truly a beautiful native garden that enhances the property and attracts native wildlife to include pollinators such as bees and butterflies. The client was thrilled and noted that it has become a peaceful go-to space that reflects the natural beauty of the area. The is an example of quality craftsmanship and ecological integrity of Magee Design, and really embodies the principles of the 'Native Plant Landscape' .
