East Coast Style Landscaping by Paul Hendershot Design, Inc. In the beautiful landscape of California, 'East Coast Style' by Paul Hendershot Design, Inc. is the result of a thoughtful and harmonious design blending coastal charm and elegant sophistication. Our clients, whom we serve across Ojai, Santa Paula, Ventura, and other surrounding areas, wanted a now redesign that embodied the classic coastal design of New England gardens with a touch of the unique climate of Southern California. The design incorporates a stunning planting palette of native plants chosen for sustainability and aesthetic from season to season. Hydrangeas, lavender, and ornamental grasses were intentionally selected to create inviting paths which beckon the guest to move their way through the lush landscape. Natural stone paths not only present the aesthetics of the design but are also functional and durable to the weather conditions of the area. One of the challenges we addressed in the took into consideration the existing topography of the site, and we resolved how to provide proper drainage to avoid any further erosion. We creatively incorporated a series of terraced garden beds interspersed and realigned with boulders, which served to be both functional and aesthetic. Further, an irrigation system was subtly placed to provide efficiency and water conservation, but remain out of view while providing the necessary nutrients for the gardens to thrive. The final product creates a breathtaking ambience that is relaxing and enjoyable. The clients were thrilled with the al fresco seating including custom built benches with a traditional fire pit for guest gatherings. PHDI blended the functional hardscape and softscape features to produce a stunning value for the property, while providing a peaceful atmosphere that resembles an escape to the East Coast.
