About This Project

Family Compound Paul Hendershot Design, Inc. is excited to present its newly completed landscaping the Family Compound. Situated in the beautiful surroundings of Ojai, this aims to enjoy outdoor spaces as cohesive spaces for gathering with family. The Family Compound is designed with various landscaping features: native drought-resistant plants, pathways, and an outdoor living room that seamlessly blend into the natural surroundings. Our landscape design utilized only high-quality materials; pathways were formed with decomposed granite, raised beds were be built with reclaimed wood, and the outdoor fire pit was constructed with sustainable stone. One of the biggest hurdles we faced was grading the property, which lent itself to its unique topography and required grading improvements to assure the conformal use of the space. We worked hard to contour the land to improve water drainage and keep selected landscape original. The is finalized with an incredible outdoor space, comprised of a spacious patio with comfortable seating and custom barbeque; and an herb garden, which provides vibrant color and fresh product for family meals. Ultimately, the clients were presented with a cohesive and inviting space they would enjoy, perfectly balancing function and aesthetic. The Family Compound demonstrates quality craftsmanship, and overcoming design hurdles will create space to make family memories.
