Kalorama Contemporary Horn & Co. (formerly JHLA) is excited to present the 'Kalorama Contemporary' landscape renovation, an exciting that embodies modern design and complements the beauty of the natural landscape. The is located in the well-respected Kalorama neighborhood and reflects our dedication to quality craftsmanship and inspired design serving clients in Alexandria, Arlington, Bethesda, and more. The incorporates a formal site layout that elevates the contemporary architecture of the home while also providing functional outdoor spaces. The highlights of the include an eye-catching geometric patio made with beautiful bluestone that creates the ideal space for family and friends to gather. We utilized native plant species throughout the redesign around the patio, providing an aesthetically pleasing, sustainable, and low-maintenance landscape with bursts of color in every season. One of the biggest challenges of this site was the change in elevation, which required creative grading ideas. Our talented landscape construction team gracefully met the challenge by building a variety of beautiful retaining walls out of natural stone that create tiered garden beds that not only improve drainage, but also look amazing. A custom irrigation system was installed to provide watering support for the lush plantings without wasting water. Ultimately, the result was a beautiful balance of hardscaping and softscaping that realized the clients' vision for a contemporary yet inviting outdoor space. The combination of textures, colors, and materials achieved a tranquil feeling that provides relief from the hustle and bustle of city living, and our client was thrilled with the transformation, thanking us for our attention to and ability to fulfill their landscape dreams.
