The parks team took a classic residential lot and created a beautiful outdoor space that is not only unified with the modern style of the home but also preserves the natural beauty of the area. This boasted a well-thought-out layout, including a large patio made of high-quality bluestone pavers that offer long-lasting and beautiful surface materials for dining and relaxing outdoors. Locally sourced stone within the patio manifested both an aesthetic and sustainable approach. Raised garden beds filled with native perennials and ornamental grasses circling the patio enhanced the ecological integrity of the landscape while providing colorful planes that changed with the season. Through design and management, the site presented a considerable challenge due to its topographythat is, there was a steep slope that made both access and usability a concern. Our skilled team unveiled access by way of a series of terraced levels, which enabled navigate through unique spaces for dining, lounging, and gardening. This solution yielded beneficial levels of usable space, while also providing visual interest along with depth in the landscape. Additionally, we layered softscape elements such as trees and shrubs for privacy, shade, and attention to local habitats.
