A Mediterranean Garden by Paul Hendershot Design, Inc. Located in the heart Ojai, California, 'A Mediterranean Garden' exemplifies the design and expertise of Paul Hendershot Design, Inc. for clients in Ventura County and beyond. This idyllic landscape integrates the natural beauty of the surrounding area with the ageless characteristics of a Mediterranean garden. The design features a gorgeous selection of drought tolerant plants, such as the eye-catching bougainvillea, fragrant lavender, and hardy rosemary, which were selected specifically for the climate and to enhance the local palette. The team included native stone pathways and terracotta pots to give the garden an earthy feel, but also created a durable and low maintenance feel. The original challenge for this was the rolling terrain of the site. Therefore, the used creative grading to create a good flow in the space. We designed terraced planting beds to mitigate the sloping, which also created a way to add interest and depth to the landscape and actually increased accessibility. Just past the entrance, we designed a beautiful outdoor living space by a custom-built pergola with seating for outdoor entertaining, or just resting quietly in the scenes of the garden. We also created reclaimed wood for the pergola, which was sustainable, and designed sparkling lights in the garden to create a magical feel at night time. The final product is a stunning Mediterranean garden! Visually this garden offers a vibrant array of colors, textures and smells to stimulate the senses. Our client was thrilled with the outcome and expressed, "oh, this is an oasis," and enjoyed how beauty and function integrated manifestly into the landscape. At Paul Hendershot Design, Inc.
