Carpentry by Graham Kimak Landscape Designs The 'Carpentry' originated in the beautiful surroundings of Upstate South Carolina and Western North Carolina. The idea was to create an outdoor environment where physical structures and nature could coexist in a way that showcased beautiful greenery while enhancing functionality on the property for both relaxing and entertaining. Beginning with the property site assessment, we knew of specific areas we would like to improve and enhance on the property while providing a gentle touch to the ecology of the area. With those areas in mind, we gathered beautiful and durable materials for the structures, such as locally sourced cedar and treated pine, to create a beautiful, elegant pergola, rustic raised garden beds, and custom seating areas. Each of the structures were first designed to add value aesthetically and provide a functional purpose, secondly, they were constructed to withstand the climate of the area. Like most building s, one of the initial challenges we had to address in this was the slope of the property. Ensuring stability and drainage for all constructed features required some creativity. However, after careful planning and execution, we were able to create tiered planting areas to address the slope while adding visual interest. Other considerations for the site design included native plants and flowers for low maintenance that would thrive in the landscape and support wildlife in the area. The resulting transformation was nothing short of amazing. The outdoor living area featured a beautiful pergola with climbing vines creating the perfect retreat to relax and hang out, the raised garden beds provided seasonal vegetables, herbs and flowers, and transformed the landscape and client space to create and practice a sustainable lifestyle. Our client was thrilled with the transition, feeling fulfilled at the balance of artistry and function.
